Total tupid newbie: Can't install and/or use pliant on my linux
I followed exactly the installation instructions from the
website, but it seems not to work.

|All worked fine until i called /pliant/pliant/install/install.
It immediatly gave an error message and recommended to change something
via the http servr (aaah!). Then it kept quiet for a long time to
suddenly burst out lots of messages but with no clear saying "error".
I found no info on the website how to envoke pliant.
I tried "man pliant" Nothing.
I entered "pliant" whic gives the GPL dislaimer and the tibet "disclaimer"
end end then quietly and happily.
Option like --help. -help or -h are take as filenames, not as options, so no help
from there, too.
Can I run the install file again (with >textfile) to get the messages,
or is there a backup of this messages already?

|I like to talk about pliant a little bit. But nobody here.
So I talk to myself...
I read about the theoretical concepts inside of pliant a like them.

|Yeah, I like them, too!
A little bit like the coll modern script languages (you know, perl,
tcl, python) but with better perfomrance and better flexibility,
I would think.

|But there's another good thing about pliant. I mean the
...What do these men in white clothes want here.
Aaaah. No! Nooooo!

You should post the all output you get when running /pliant/pliant/install/install

|You are not listening to what I say (write).
I announce here, that I try to develop a concurrent project to pliant.

|This is not a chat forum, am i right? People working on/with Pliant are
probably busy because they try to make it better i would guess. If you have
installation problem, why don't you copy the logs into a new message here, and
then you have better chance to get answer.
By the way, is there any (official?) Pliant chat possibility somewhere on the

No, because Pliant does not implement chat yet :-)

|For a newbie the problem is the following :
When making the first "install" he receives this message
"precompiling Pliant (debugging level 0)"
"Could not find computer name in Pliant configuration database."
"Please configure it through the HTTP server,"
"then reexecute Pliant installation script."
and there is a long time when nothing is displayed and you can think
that process is terminated.
you quit the install process ask for "localhost" and there is no "localhost".
you can do it a lot of time ....
The right way is to wait for the bulk of the message
"http server is running on PCP port 80 " a.s.o.
I think that the message must be less ambiguous"

|I agree 100% with Michel.
While observing my students trying to install Pliant, quite a few did exactly
what Michel has mentioned, viz., they panic when they see those messages,
they stop the installation, and then start the install again.
