Can't install pliant on linux
|Message posted by szamo on 2005/02/17 15:26:41
|Due to the installation guide:
http://pliant.cx/pliant/welcome/install_step_by_step.html?os%20%22linux%22, step 4.
after i download, untargz the file, i have to run /pliant/pliant/install/install.
Here is my problem. There is no executable install file in that directory. In
older pliant versions, there was install (for linux) and install.exe (for windows),
which did the work, those are missing since version 85(?).
how can i install pliant on linux if there is no install script?
if the install script is not required, when the webpage will be updated?
I tried an older install script, it was able to install debug1, debug2 exe, but
failed to install debug0. After that i tried to start the pliant http server
with debug1 exe, and it failed with errors.

|Looks like we need to upgrade the documentation:
just run 'fullpliant' executable to precompile and start the HTTP server.

|The install howto available at the PDI site is up to date.
What is not up to date is the server configuration procedure. The one available
on the PDI is based on older releases which still used the 'configure everything'
button. Newer releases do not have that button anymore. I.e., one has to manually
create an anymous user, etc.

|Thanks. The PDI link is also old, it is
http://pliant.cx/pliantdocs/babel/universal/ on my computer (pliant93), and
http://playground.scs.ryerson.ca:8080/docs.html on pliant.cx.
At least now the http server is running, not sure i can configure it well. I will
try, can't be very difficult, i hope.
