Discussion: http://pliant.cx/ organization
|Message posted by hubert.tonneau on 2002/11/10 21:13:03
|http://pliant.cx/ has been moved to a logical computer.
The key advantage of the new organization is that the Pliant process servicing
pliant.cx is not running as 'root' anymore, and is chrooted, so if
http://pliant.cx/ web site is compromised, then it will be hard for the hacker
to get control of the overall server. So, having http://pliant.cx/ a very open
site that let browse most of it's file should not be a problem anymore.
As an exemple, I could service the download files through another less open
site. I can also install scripts that monitor http://pliant.cx/ in order to
try to detect any break in.
The other advantage is that I can run other logical servers on the same
physical one, so we can now bring back the documentation server and install
it in another logical server, with Michel and Marcus having administrator
rights on this second logical server.
What has to be decided now is the new organization for Pliant project.
Also I start to have a precise idea of where I want to go, please feel free
to post ideas, wishes and preposals since reorganization time is ... now.

|I think it can be interesting, the forward feture permits a convivial external view of a complex organisation.
Th dpliantdocs can be a logical server not belonging to root.
I think that a part can be open for not core applications with a tree corresponding to "Progam files" of windows.
