Discussion: Webmail tool

|Pliant does have mail boxes, but no webmail tool, right? By webmail tool I mean a
Web application which would allow one to read/send email using a browser.
Would this be an interesting application to be added to the Pliant internet suite?

|There is a top quality web mail tool in Pliant.
When you have defined a mail box, and assigned it to you, if you are logged in,
you will see a 'Mailboxes' link just below 'Some Pliant services' in Pliant

|I did as you have suggested. But the link didn't show up for me.
I have created a mail box '1' and assigned it to me (the administrator in this
case). That's basically what I have done in that mail box creation page.
My mail box configuration is working, since I am able to send messages using
pliant programs and also my forums forward the posted messages properly.

|Get in users administration page, select your account, and fill the mailboxes
table at the bottom.

|Even though the mailbox ID I fill in in the users page is the same as in the
mailbox configuration page, the system complains that my mailbox is not defined
when I visit the mailbox link in my pliant front page.

|Please send me a copy of your user.pdb and mail.pdb file.
They should contain no confidencial informations since these are in user2.pdb,
mail2.pdb, user_secret.pdb and mail_secret.pdb

|ok. I am able to send messages using the Web mail application, but I am not able
to receive messages in my mailbox, even if the message is sent from within the
mailbox. When, from the outside, I try to send a message to my mailbox, it bounces
back. When, from inside the mailbox, I try to send a message to myself, the
message shows listed. When I click on 'details', the error field shows
'failed to connect to playground.scs.ryerson.ca SMTP TCP port'.

|I think if we had some mock emailbox fully setup on pliant.cx, that would help
someone configure their own mailboxes.

The server says that it concluded that the server handling the target mail
box is 'playground.scs.ryerson.ca', so it tried to connect to it's port 25 (SMTP),
but failed to.
The reason might be either that the Pliant server has to route to reach
playground.scs.ryerson.ca or that playground.scs.ryerson.ca does not run an
If you want to run Pliant SMTP server on a system, you have to select
'Configuring the server' then 'Maiboxes' then
'mail system global settings for this computer'
set 'SMTP service' to 'yes' and select 'Update' button.
Then you have to start Pliant through:
pliant module /pliant/fullpliant/run.pli

|When I run run.pli, the system informs me that
TCP port 25 is used by another server.
How can I change the port?

You cannot, because the SMTP RFC states that TCP port is 25.
If the port is used by another process, then you already have an SMTP
server running, so you either have to use it for handling all your mailboxes,
or stop it.
